More About Call of the Night
Mangaka Kotoyama’s original Japanese manga series Call of the Night is serialised in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday. It began on August 28, 2019, and is still ongoing.
It will soon receive an anime adaptation of the same name, with a script by Michiko Yokote, character designs by Haruka Sagawa, and main director Tomoyuki Itamura. It is set to premiere in July 2022 and will be produced by LIDENFILMS.
Kou Yamori appears to be an ordinary middle school student on the surface. He works hard to maintain this image while remaining competent in school and friendly with his classmates.
However, one day he decides to stop pretending and quits school, resulting in insomnia as a result of not having an outlet for his energy throughout the day. He feels better when he walks alone at night, but he is well aware that his inability to sleep is a serious problem.
On one of these walks, Kou meets a strange girl named Nazuna Nanakusa, who diagnoses the source of his insomnia: despite making positive changes in his life, he is still preventing himself from experiencing true freedom. She claims he won’t be able to sleep unless he is content with his waking hours.
Nazuna invites him back to her apartment to sleep on her futon after she appears to have addressed his immediate concerns. After a while, she bends over him and bites his neck, unaware that he is simply pretending to be unconscious.
