True crime and suspense thriller fans have enjoyed Hulu’s Candy. Jessica Biel played Betty Gore, Pablo Schreiber played Allan Gore, Justin Timberlake played Sheriff Steve Deffibaugh, and Timothy Simons played Pat Montgomery in the miniseries created by Nick Antosca and Robin Veith. The 5-night Hulu event, which consisted of five episodes released daily throughout the week, drew a large number of viewers and sparked heated debate.
The show focused on Betty Gore’s murder and the subsequent trial of Candy Montgomery, who was accused of her murder. Many viewers were shocked and gasped for more after the show ended, wanting to know what happened next. So, if you fit that description, this is the place for you.
Was Candy found guilty of killing Betty Gore?
On the morning of June 13, 1980, Betty Gore was murdered. After four months had passed since the incident, Candy Montgomery faced an eight-day trial in McKinney, where she was accused of killing Gore. Montgomery claimed self-defense and claimed that Gore was the first to attack her twice with a 3-foot axe.
Following this, a psychiatrist testified on Montgomery’s behalf, claiming that Gore’s use of the word’shush’ triggered childhood trauma in Montgomery and caused a dissociation reaction. The jury quickly accepted the self-defense claim. Candy Montgomery was acquitted of the murder charge against Betty Gore in October 1980.
Where is Candy now?
Candy and her husband, Pat, divorced four years after the trial, according to the conclusion of the Hulu miniseries. Our main character moved to Georgia and changed her name, though she kept her maiden name to give herself a fresh start. She began working as a mental health counsellor. She has remained out of the public eye since the trial, so little is known about her.
Hulu now has all of Candy’s episodes available.
