Squid Game was a show that was difficult to forget because we kept wanting more from the series after the ending that teased us. For a long time, viewers adored Lee Jung-jae, and we’ve been clamouring for a season 2 ever since.
Though a sequel to Squid Game has been confirmed, it was only recently that director Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed to us that he has finally completed the script and that filming will begin soon. Sung Ki-hoon, played by Lee Jung-jae, will once again be the show’s protagonist.
Squid Game Season 1 was seen through the eyes of this character, and we loved the intense games that changed our perspectives on some of our favourite childhood games. The set, plot, and actors all contributed to an incredible show that blew us away with its novel and entertaining concept.
According to director Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game season 2 will be seen from Lee Jung-perspective jae’s as he seeks vengeance while applying what he learned from season 1. He is no longer the naive character from the first season, and it isn’t just his new fiery red hair that has changed.
Season 2 will also see the return of Lee Byung-hun, the man in charge of the game and the brother of the cop who infiltrated the games’ site. Gong Yoo will also return, along with new characters, because most of the characters were killed off in Season 1.
However, you may see more familiar faces, though this is not guaranteed. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk didn’t miss an opportunity to tease us once more, implying that this might not be the final season of the brutal games. And, let’s be honest, we’d welcome more seasons of the games that shook us to our core.
Overall, director Hwang Dong-hyuk has made it clear that the sequel will be released in late 2024, so the wait will be long. However, there is no doubt that the new season will not disappoint.
