More About Summertime Render
Yasuki Tanaka is the author and illustrator of the Japanese manga series Summer Time Rendering. The narrative was serialised in Shueisha’s online publication Shnen Jump+ from October 2017 to February 2021. OLM will publish an anime television series based on the manga in April 2022. A movie based on the book and an escape game in real life are also in the works.
After his parents passed away, he lived with the Kofune sisters Mio and Ushio, but he has since moved to Tokyo and is now living alone. Ushio tragically perished at sea while en route to save Shiori Kobayakawa. Ushio’s neck was hurt, raising doubt about the exact cause of death.
Shinpei steps back and thinks, “There must be another reason for this,” concluding that there must be one. The situation is made worse when Ushio’s ghost asks him to save Mio as a final act of kindness for the islanders. He is certain that Ushio’s passing is just a small component of a much larger puzzle.
Shinpei is working to create a future in which he, his friends, and his family can all survive with the help of Mio and others. He continues to look into it and comes to the conclusion that such a scenario is highly unlikely. His native island is submerged beneath a sleeping abyss. How much more suffering will he have to put up with before he figures out how to properly preserve it?
